Space Traveler (Orion Syndrome, 1987)

This unusual concept album dealt with the moody science fiction concepts of an impending nuclear war in a futuristic space faring society, and the Space Traveler, who is attempting to make his escape. Genre: Progressive Rock.

Videos

“Hourglass” – from the 1993 album “Spacetime”.

This conceptual video complements the overall best composition on the album. A dramatic break in the center gives way to a moody but powerful guitar solo, and a dynamic, complex Rush-inspired ending. These are some of the best lyrics from the band, with the hourglass concept being the gate between past and future.

This song was the most popular Orion Syndrome song on MP3.Com, sitting at #2 on the Progressive Rock Charts for over a week.

“To the Moon” – from the 2008 Album “The Magic Telescope”

This is a music video of “To the Moon”, a song inspired obviously by the accomplishments of the Apollo lunar landings. A different version of this song was part of “The Magic Telescope”, an astronomy play by David Hearn, in 2008.

This song clearly is a nod to Rush’s “Countdown”, but in contrast to that power trio’s tribute to the Space Shuttle program, this song and video praises the great accomplishments of the early Apollo space program. Historic sound clips give this song a heroic feel.

“The Magic Telescope – Exploring the Moon”

The Magic Telescope was an astronomy play to be distributed on DVD, as a youth astronomy outreach offering. This pilot episode was intended to be the blueprint for a series of videos. Although the movie never made it to market due to legal issues, it is being released here.

In the Magic Telescope story, three girls use an enchanted telescope, that teleports them to whatever they are looking at in the telescope; in this case, the Moon. After an exciting transport to the lunar surface, the three friends climb and dance on the hills of the Moon, overcome some challenges, and return safely home.
